Nigeria Must Tackle the Out-of-School Children Crisis, Alausa States
Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, confidently asserts that Nigeria faces a significant crisis regarding out-of-school children, and immediate, decisive action is essential to address it. Recognizing the urgency of the situation, the federal government is actively collaborating with state governors to implement effective solutions.

Dr. Alausa made it clear during meetings with state governors, 36 commissioners of education, and representatives from the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) that finding lasting solutions is not just necessary; it’s imperative.
“The magnitude of out-of-school children is staggering and cannot be ignored. This is a nationwide issue, affecting every geopolitical region in our country. We will confront this crisis directly; inaction is not an option. Engaging with our governors is key, and discussions with the Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF) are already underway to develop strategic responses,” he stated with conviction.
The minister also addressed the urgent need to revive the Almajiri schools established during the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan, emphasizing that these institutions must be restored to fulfill their original purpose.
Dr. Alausa highlighted that out of the more than 100 schools built during that time, only a few are operational today. He assured that the ministry will take decisive steps to enhance human capital development in the education sector, ensuring that all necessary infrastructure for effective teaching and learning is provided.
“Without a strong educational foundation, our society cannot thrive. We must confront the reality that Nigeria ranks among the lowest on the global human capital index,” Alausa confidently declared
