OGSA: A Model for Others to Emulate – Dr. Niyi Ijogun
Dr. Niyi Ijogun, the Global President of the Oyemekun Grammar School Akure Alumni Association, boldly asserted that Oyemekun Grammar School Akure (OGSA) serves as a vital benchmark for public secondary schools everywhere. He made this assertion during a press conference at the school’s Alumni Secretariat in Akure, Ondo State, marking the celebration of the 72nd Founders’ Week Anniversary.

Ijogun expressed deep gratitude to God for the school’s endurance and unequivocally credited its visionary founders, particularly the late Chief B.F. Adinlewa and previous principals, for laying an unshakeable foundation. He recognized Mr. Adeniyi Oluyide, the current principal, for his exceptional passion and professional expertise. Furthermore, he acknowledged the unwavering commitment from the alumni association, dedicated teaching and non-teaching staff, the Parents-Teachers Association (PTA), students, and other essential stakeholders.
He praised the Ondo State government, led by Governor Hon. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, declaring, “We are resolute in our mission to elevate this institution to unprecedented heights. OGSA is the definitive example of what a public secondary school should embody in Ondo State, and we will fiercely support the initiatives of the state government.”

In launching the anniversary festivities, Dr. Ijogun emphasized the collaborative nature of all stakeholders, affirming that OGSA is not just a school but a world-class institution. He firmly stated, “Our competition extends far beyond local or state borders; we measure ourselves against the best schools in Nigeria, in Africa, and on the global stage. This is why we have established the Global Executive Council of the Association.”
As the Chairman of Premier Holiday Resorts in Igbara-Oke, Niyi Ijogun made it clear that his commitment to advancing OGSA is unwavering. He pointed out that the outstanding achievements of the past three years are undeniable proof of this resolution and assured that the values instilled by past leaders will be rigorously upheld.

He announced significant projects currently underway: the fencing of the school grounds, the construction of a modern corpers’ lodge sponsored by Hon. Sunday Abegunde (Abena), and a state-of-the-art 5,000-capacity multi-purpose hall financed by Senator Adeniyi Adegbonmire, SAN, who represents Ondo Central. Additionally, a groundbreaking ceremony for the 1985 alumni set is scheduled for tomorrow. This group will celebrate its 40th anniversary and will hold the annual general meeting on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at St. Andrew’s Anglican Church Event Hall at 10 AM. Ijogun recognized the efforts of the 1985 set, led by Estate Surveyor Akinpelu Akinmola, Director of Lands and Services at the Ondo State Ministry of Lands and Housing, for their unwavering dedication to their alma mater.
Addressing security improvements, Ijogun outlined the establishment of a robust security task force and the installation of CCTV cameras and solar lights throughout the campus. He highlighted the modern ICT laboratories, which serve as essential hubs for learning, benefiting numerous external educational institutions.
