Shettima proceeds on first official leave since assuming office

Vice President Kashim Shettima has commenced a two-week leave following approval by President Bola Tinubu, marking his first official vacation since taking office on May 29, 2023.

The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Thursday by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications in the Office of the Vice President, Stanley Nkwocha.

According to the statement, Shettima will use the break for study, personal reflection and intellectual development to enhance his capacity for national service.

The Vice President is also expected to review key government programmes, examine emerging national and international policy issues, and prepare for the next phase of implementing the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

Since assuming office, Shettima has played a central role in coordinating several strategic government initiatives, particularly in the areas of economic growth, food security, humanitarian intervention, digital transformation, job creation and regional collaboration.

He also chairs the National Economic Council, where state governors, the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria and other senior government officials deliberate on policies aimed at improving the economy and citizens’ welfare.

The statement further noted that the Vice President has represented President Tinubu at several international and regional engagements, including G20 and African Union-European Union summits, while the President remained in Nigeria to oversee critical national security matters.

Nkwocha said Shettima remains committed to the principles of loyalty, service and dedication, adding that he will continue supporting the President’s vision of building a safer, more prosperous and productive nation.

The Vice President is expected to resume official duties on or around August 20, 2026, after completing the two-week leave.
