2Baba condemns Benue killings, urges collective action
Nigerian music icon, Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2Baba, has condemned the recurring attacks in Benue State, describing the continued bloodshed in parts of the state as unacceptable and calling for urgent collective action to end the violence.
The singer, who hails from Benue, made the appeal during a visit to Otukpo-Nobi community in Otukpo Local Government Area on Wednesday following recent attacks allegedly carried out by suspected armed herders.
The visit came weeks after gunmen attacked the community on July 12, leaving at least 10 people dead and several others injured.
Sharing moments from the visit on his Instagram page, 2Baba expressed solidarity with residents, stating that the pain of the community was shared by all Benue indigenes.
“Benue is home. When home hurts, we all feel it. Today is about standing together, listening, and reminding one another that hope is never lost,” he wrote.
Addressing members of the affected community, the award-winning artiste sympathised with victims and bereaved families, stressing that the persistent attacks had reached an alarming level and could no longer be ignored.
According to him, meaningful efforts must begin immediately to find lasting solutions to the insecurity affecting the state.
“It’s becoming too much now. We can’t continue to pretend anymore. We need to start planning. It won’t happen overnight, but there will definitely be a solution,” he said.
2Baba noted that addressing the crisis would require the commitment and cooperation of government, community leaders, security agencies and residents.
“It’s not something one person can solve alone. Everyone has to come together and confront it. I came here to sympathise with you all because what has happened is truly painful,” he added.
