ODHA Commences Public Sitting on Audited Reports For Local Government

ODHA COMMENDE’S PUBLIC SITTING ON AUDITED REPORT FOR LOCAL GOVERNMENT

Ondo State House of Assembly has commenced public sitting on year 2016 to 2019 audited reports of the Auditor General for Local Governments on the accounts of the eighteen Local Governments.

Declaring the sitting open, the Speaker of the House, Rt Hon Bamidele Oleyelogun Represented by the Deputy Speaker, Rt Hon Samuel Aderoboye, posited that it was garmane to ensure local Governments account are accurate in conformity with the extant law.

The Speaker said that that the four years outstanding record would be be concluded for the betterment of the state.

In his remarks, the Chairman of the Committee, Hon Festus Adefiranye noted that the essence of the programme is to confirm the audit process, noting that it is not to witchunt anybody but to ensure transparency and accountability.

While saying that it became imperative to set the record straight as such activities occured last in 2015,he added that it would henceforth be on a yearly basis in line with global best practices.

Adefiranye who said it is the responsibility of the Committee to consider the output of the Auditor General to ensure check and balance,he charged Local Governments to be responsive to avert queries.

Earlier, the Auditor General for Local Government, Mr Francis Adaramola averred that financial management process is key to effective service delivery.

He charged the Management of Local Governments to continue to do what is expected of them to achieve the set goal.

He promised that his team will provide technical support for the committee throughout the 5 days sitting and equally ensure that all backlog are cleared .

He noted that the programme was to ensure transparency in local Governments while public officers must make judicious use of fund released to them.

Adaramola commended the committee for its support over the years and for doing a great job on the reports.
