Lagos Task Force Arrests 15 Suspects for Allegedly Recycling Discarded Plastic Plates for Food Sales
The Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (KAI) has arrested 15 suspects for allegedly collecting used plastic plates and food containers from refuse dumps and reselling them to food vendors after minimal cleaning.

The suspects were apprehended during a coordinated enforcement operation carried out in different parts of the state following intelligence reports on the illegal activity.
According to officials, investigations revealed that the suspects scavenged plastic plates, bowls and food packs from waste bins and refuse disposal sites before washing and supplying them to unsuspecting food sellers for reuse.
Authorities described the practice as a serious public health risk capable of exposing residents to infections and other health complications due to contamination from improperly discarded materials.
The agency noted that the operation formed part of ongoing efforts to maintain environmental sanitation standards and protect public health across the state.

Officials warned food vendors and members of the public to be vigilant when purchasing plastic food containers and patronise only trusted suppliers to avoid unknowingly buying contaminated items.
The arrested suspects are expected to face prosecution in accordance with relevant environmental and public health laws.
The agency also urged residents to report suspicious activities involving waste recycling and the sale of used food containers, stressing that the government would continue to clamp down on practices that endanger public safety.
