Update: Police Confirm Helicopter Crash in Ondo Community

The Ondo State Police Command has confirmed that a helicopter crashed in the Igbokoda axis of Ilaje Local Government Area of the state on Monday, October 5, 2026.

The incident reportedly caused panic among residents of the coastal community, with details about the aircraft and those on board still unclear at the time of reporting.

The Police Public Relations Officer in Ondo State, DSP Jimoh Abayomi, confirmed the incident and said security authorities were working to establish the circumstances surrounding the crash.

According to him, the situation was still developing, and the command was making efforts to obtain verified information about the incident.

Abayomi appealed to residents of Igbokoda and neighbouring communities to remain calm and avoid spreading unconfirmed reports about the crash.

He said the police would provide the public with further information once credible details became available.

A community leader who spoke on condition of anonymity also confirmed that a helicopter had crashed in the Igbokoda area. However, the source said the exact location of the crash and other details were not immediately known.

The source said residents were aware of the incident but were still waiting for authorities to provide more information about what happened.

As of press time, the identity of the helicopter, its operator, the number of people aboard and the exact circumstances that led to the crash had not been officially disclosed.
