Tinubu Mourns The Eagle Online Publisher, Dotun Oladipo
President Bola Tinubu has expressed sadness over the death of veteran journalist and publisher of The Eagle Online, Dotun Oladipo, describing his passing as a significant loss to Nigeria’s media industry and the country.
Oladipo, a former Political Editor of The Punch, reportedly died in Lagos on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, at the age of 56.
The President’s condolence message was contained in a statement issued on Wednesday by his Special Assistant on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
Tinubu commended Oladipo’s contributions to Nigerian journalism, particularly his years of political reporting and his efforts to provide credible information to the public through both traditional and digital media.
According to the President, Oladipo’s career demonstrated the important role of journalists in strengthening democracy by keeping citizens informed, holding public officials accountable and promoting meaningful public discourse.
Tinubu also recalled Oladipo’s passion for journalism and his contribution to the growth of Nigeria’s digital media sector through The Eagle Online, which he founded after his time at The Punch.
The President said Oladipo’s contributions to political journalism and digital media would remain memorable.
“Dotun Oladipo’s death at the age of 56 is a painful loss to the Nigerian media community and to our nation,” Tinubu said.
He described the deceased as a committed journalist who devoted many years to informing Nigerians and contributing to the development of democracy.
Tinubu extended his condolences to Oladipo’s family, colleagues in the Guild of Corporate Online Publishers (GOCOP) and his friends, while praying for the repose of his soul.
He also prayed that God would grant the deceased eternal rest and give his loved ones the strength to cope with the loss.
