SAD: Veteran Nollywood Actor Taiwo Hassan ‘Ogogo’ Dies at 66
Veteran Nollywood actor and filmmaker Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, has died. He was 66.
The report of his death emerged on Sunday, August 23, 2026, amid weeks of concern over his health.
In recent days, Ogogo’s daughters, Lima and Kira Taiwo, had publicly appealed for urgent medical assistance for their father, disclosing that he had been diagnosed with stage-four cancer. The family sought help from medical professionals and hospitals capable of managing his treatment, while colleagues in the Yoruba movie industry rallied around him.
On Friday, prominent Nollywood actors and filmmakers including Yinka Quadri, Jide Kosoko, Antar Laniyan, Bukky Wright, Mr Latin and others gathered in Lagos for a special prayer session for his recovery.
As of Sunday, reports of his passing began circulating online. His daughter, Kira, had also spoken during a live session about the difficult period surrounding her father’s illness.
As at the time of filing this report, the family is yet to release an official statement confirming the death.
Ogogo was one of the most respected veterans of the Nigerian Yoruba film industry. Over several decades, he built a distinguished career as an actor and filmmaker and remained a beloved figure to fans across generations.
