Rt. Hon. Barr. Ogundeji Iroju is not just a politician; he is a product of the people, a leader shaped by grassroots realities, and a statesman driven by purpose. His journey in public service reflects a rare blend of experience, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to development that truly touches lives.
His political story began where it matters most—at the grassroots. Between 1991 and 1993, he served as a Councillor in Odigbo Local Government, earning the trust of his people through accessibility, dedication, and service. This early foundation defined his leadership philosophy: governance must be close to the people and responsive to their needs.
Years later, he returned to local governance with even greater impact as Supervisory Councillor for Agriculture and Community Development (2004–2005), where he championed initiatives that strengthened rural livelihoods and empowered communities. His work was practical, people-focused, and deeply impactful.
Recognised for his diligence and competence, Rt. Hon. Iroju was appointed Senior Special Assistant to the Governor of Ondo State on Project Monitoring and Evaluation (2009–2011). In this role, he became a strong advocate for transparency, accountability, and effective project execution, ensuring that government initiatives translated into real benefits for the people.
His leadership capacity was further proven as Head of the Direct Labour Agency Team IV (2011–2013), where he played a significant role in driving infrastructural development and supporting policy implementation across the state.
In 2013, his outstanding performance earned him appointment as Honourable Commissioner for Employment and Productivity in Ondo State. During his tenure, he was instrumental in shaping policies that promoted job creation, youth empowerment, and economic growth, touching lives and opening opportunities for many.
Yet, in a defining moment of courage and conviction, Rt. Hon. Iroju made a bold decision, to resign his commissionership position in pursuit of legislative service. He contested and won election into the Ondo State House of Assembly, representing Odigbo Constituency I, a victory that spoke volumes about the confidence his people had in him.
His time in the Assembly has been nothing short of exceptional. As Deputy Speaker of the 8th Assembly, a position he attained through unanimous support, he provided stable, inclusive, and effective leadership. His ability to build consensus, manage legislative processes, and represent his people with clarity and strength set him apart.
Re-elected in 2019 with overwhelming support, he was once again unanimously chosen as Deputy Speaker in the 9th Assembly, an uncommon endorsement that reflects trust, respect, and proven leadership.
Beyond his elective roles, Rt. Hon. Iroju has contributed significantly to governance through his involvement in key committees, including scholarship and bursary disbursement, local government staff audits, and strategic oversight functions. His impact extends beyond titles, he is a builder of systems, a voice for fairness, and a champion of accountability.
Today, as he steps forward to represent the good people of Odigbo/Ileoluji/Okeigbo Federal Constituency at the National Assembly, Rt. Hon. Ogundeji Iroju brings with him not just ambition, but experience, credibility, and a track record of results.
