Outrage in Delta as Police Officer Shoots Handcuffed Suspect at Close Range
Widespread outrage has followed the killing of a 28-year-old suspect, Mene Ogidi, after a disturbing video showed him being shot at close range by a police officer in Delta State.

In the viral clip, the suspect was seen seated on the ground with his hands tied behind his back, pleading for his life and begging officers to spare him.
Speaking in Pidgin English, he claimed he had been deceived by a friend in Sapele and offered to lead the officers to the person involved.
“Officers, abeg, I go tell you everything. Na my friend deceive me, I go carry you go the place,” he pleaded.
Despite his repeated pleas, an officer dressed in mufti was seen cocking his rifle before firing at close range. The suspect immediately slumped to the ground as shocked bystanders watched.
His body was later carried into a Toyota Sienna belonging to the Nigeria Police Force, Effurun Area Command.
Police authorities later identified the victim as Mene Ogidi and confirmed that the officer responsible was ASP Nuhu Usman, who has since been arrested.
According to the police spokesperson, Bright Edafe, Ogidi had earlier been apprehended while allegedly attempting to waybill a parcel said to contain a Beretta pistol with four rounds of ammunition.
Edafe stated that the officer’s actions clearly violated Force Order 237 and standard police operational procedures.
He added that ASP Usman has been transferred to the state headquarters in Asaba and later moved to Abuja, where he will appear before the Force Disciplinary Committee for possible sanctions and prosecution.
The Commissioner of Police in Delta State, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, expressed condolences to the family of the deceased and assured the public that justice would be pursued.
