ONDO LAWMAKERS SEEK HELP FOR PLWDs
As part of its statory functions, the Ondo State House Committee on Women Affairs and Social Development led by its Chairman, Hon Favour Semilore Tomomewo paid an oversight visit to the Agency for the Welfare of Persons with Disabilities.
In her address, the Only female lawmaker having appreciated the management for the warm reception also applauded them for the efforts put in place to make the goal of the Agency a reality. She however reiterated that the committee was not out for witch hunting but only performing its statory assignments so as to be kept abreast of their challenges and identify areas where the committee can intervene.
Earlier, while welcoming the committee , the Secretary of the Agency, Mrs. Fashuyi said the visit was one of its kinds and appreciated the committee. She however enumerated their challenges to include but not limited to the issue of accommodation where she emphasized an urgent need for refurbishment as well as provision of adequate furniture. Others include employment opportunities for the disables which Mr. Governor has graciously approved but yet to receive their employment letters, the need for office vehicles, Rehabilitation center, Skill acquisition center among others.
In her reaction , the Chairman of the Committee, Hon Favour Tomomewo implored the Agency to carried the committee along in all their activites and pleaged to seek audience with the Head of Service and Mr. Governor concerning the isse of employment and also promised the committee’s full support in all areas of their challenges.
The Chairman of the Committee later called on wealthy citizens of Ondo State both within and in diaspora to support People Living with Disabilities in the state.
The committee also paid an Oversight Visit to The Ondo State Muslim Welfare Board where members urged the Agency to be more productive and carry the Committee along in all their activities. The Committee also promised them of its unwavering surppot.
