FUTA Don, Professor Julius Adebayo Alokan, to Be Honoured with D Chronicle Research and Development Excellence Award
The academic and professional journey of Professor Julius Adebayo Alokan reflects decades of unwavering dedication to agricultural science, research excellence, and the development of human capacity in Nigeria’s higher education system. As a renowned scholar in ruminant nutrition and livestock management, his contributions have continued to shape sustainable agricultural practices and inspire generations of researchers.

In recognition of his outstanding contributions to research, teaching, mentorship, and national development, D Chronicle Media Ventures has selected him for the Outstanding Academic Contributor to Research and National Development Award at its 2026 Excellence in Agribusiness Lecture and Award Programme.
The event is scheduled to hold on Thursday, June 11, 2026, at the OSDPC Multipurpose Event Hall, Ijapo Estate, Akure, starting at 2:00 p.m. The programme is themed “Unlocking the Agricultural Tax Potentials: Strategies for Enhancing Ondo State IGR,” and will convene key stakeholders in government, academia, and agribusiness to explore innovative approaches to agricultural revenue generation.
The keynote address will be delivered by Prof. Igbekele Ajibefun, Honourable Commissioner for Education, Ondo State, while the occasion will be chaired by Hon. (Engr.) Leye Akinola, Honourable Commissioner for Forestry, Ondo State. The Governor of Ondo State, Hon. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, will serve as the Special Guest of Honour.
A distinguished academic at the Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA), Professor Alokan began his career in 1989 as a Lecturer II and rose through the ranks to attain the position of Professor in 2003, following years of impactful teaching, research, and service.
His research has focused extensively on the use of tropical browse plants, agro-industrial by-products, and agricultural wastes in ruminant feeding systems. Through this work, he has contributed significantly to improving livestock productivity while promoting sustainable and cost-effective feed alternatives within the agricultural sector.
Over the years, he has published more than 100 scholarly articles in reputable local and international journals, supervised numerous postgraduate students, and participated in several funded research projects that continue to advance agricultural innovation in Nigeria.
Professor Alokan is a registered Animal Scientist and a member of several professional associations, including the Nigerian Institute of Animal Science, Nigerian Society for Animal Production, American Society of Animal Science, International Goat Association, Agricultural Society of Nigeria, and the Society for Grassland Research and Development in Nigeria.
His academic service record includes leadership roles such as Head of Department and Dean of the School of Agriculture and Agricultural Technology at FUTA, where he contributed meaningfully to institutional growth and academic excellence.
Beyond his academic achievements, he is also a spiritual leader and Pastor in the Christ Apostolic Church Worldwide, where he continues to impact lives through mentorship and guidance.
