#BringBackOurGirls Urges Federal Government to Release Chibok Girls Abduction Report

The #BringBackOurGirls movement is calling on the Federal Government to immediately release the findings of the 2014 Brigadier General Mohammed Sabo-led Fact-Finding Committee on the Chibok girls’ abduction—information that has been withheld from the public for over a decade.

In a statement signed by its spokesperson, Jeff Okoroafor, the group criticized successive administrations for refusing to release the report despite multiple Freedom of Information (FoI) requests. This ongoing secrecy, they argue, denies the affected families and the nation the truth they deserve.

The Sabo Committee’s report, submitted on June 20, 2014, confirmed the abduction of 276 schoolgirls from Government Secondary School, Chibok, in Borno State. While 57 girls managed to escape, 219 remained captive.

Today, more than 10 years later, 141 of those girls have regained their freedom, with many resuming their education. Yet, 78 girls remain unaccounted for—raising grave concerns that some may have been forced into terrorist strongholds.

The statement emphasized:
“The Bola Tinubu administration cannot ignore its moral and constitutional duty to account for the rescue efforts of the remaining Chibok girls. Their families—and indeed, all Nigerians—deserve to know the truth. The continued withholding of the Sabo Committee report only deepens the pain of the affected families and raises troubling questions about what the government is hiding. Transparency is not a privilege—it is a right.”

The movement reminded the public that the Sabo Committee was established by former President Goodluck Jonathan on May 6, 2014, following global outrage over the abduction. Despite the committee’s findings being submitted over a decade ago, the government has yet to release the report or provide a clear, consistent update on rescue efforts.

#BringBackOurGirls insists that the time for silence and secrecy is over. They urge the Tinubu administration to release the Sabo report without delay—offering long-overdue answers and a renewed commitment to bringing home the 78 girls who are still missing.

“These girls are not just numbers—they are daughters, sisters, and future leaders. Their families cannot move forward without the truth. It is time to end the silence. It is time to bring every missing girl home.”
