ASUU Shuts Down AAU Ekpoma Over Unpaid Allowances

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma chapter, has commenced an indefinite strike over the non-implementation of the 2025 Federal Government-ASUU agreement and unpaid allowances owed to its members.

The industrial action began on Tuesday, August 25, following the expiration of a 14-day ultimatum issued to the university management and the Edo State Government.

The union is demanding the full implementation of the 2025 FGN-ASUU agreement at the institution, as well as the payment of outstanding allowances accrued from January 2026.

The strike has affected teaching and lecturing activities, examinations, supervision of students’ research projects and other academic and administrative responsibilities.

The AAU chapter had earlier joined other ASUU branches authorised by the union’s National Executive Council to begin processes for industrial action over the implementation of the 2025 agreement.

The national leadership had warned that affected branches could proceed with strikes if their demands remained unresolved after the expiration of the required ultimatums.

The latest development is expected to disrupt academic activities at the university as the union maintains pressure on the management and Edo State Government to implement the agreement and settle the outstanding allowances.

ASUU’s action comes amid continuing concerns over the implementation of agreements between the Federal Government and university lecturers and the welfare of academic staff across the country.
