Army Sanctions Soldier Over Viral Complaint of Poor Feeding at Frontline
The Nigerian Army has disciplined a soldier serving under Operation Hadin Kai following a viral social media post alleging poor feeding of troops stationed in the North-East.

In a statement, Lt. Col. Sanni Uba, Media Information Officer for the Joint Task Force North-East, said the action followed an internal investigation into an image circulated online, which claimed that soldiers at frontline posts were being poorly fed.
According to him, the photo shared by the soldier did not accurately represent the full ration issued, describing the images and accompanying claims as misleading.
He stated that the viral post did not reflect the actual feeding arrangements or welfare standards of troops deployed in the operational theatre.
Uba explained that personnel serving in the North-East are fed according to approved military standards, with feeding provisions often improved during festive periods such as Sallah and Easter to boost morale.
He further noted that the feeding system is managed through structured Food Committees made up of personnel across different ranks and supervised by senior non-commissioned officers to ensure transparency in menu planning, food preparation, and distribution.
The Army said its findings confirmed what it described as deliberate misrepresentation, adding that disciplinary measures were taken in line with the Armed Forces Act to preserve order, discipline, and institutional integrity.
Despite the operational and logistical challenges faced in the region, Uba assured that troop welfare remains a major priority for the military.
He also advised soldiers to make use of internal complaint channels to address grievances rather than taking actions that could affect morale or create false impressions about realities on ground.
The Army warned that spreading unverified information could undermine ongoing military operations and pose risks to national security efforts.
