Governors Must Be Held Responsible for Kidnappings in Their States – Bwala

Presidential aide Daniel Bwala has said state governors should be held accountable for every kidnapping recorded within their states, arguing that insecurity at the grassroots is largely a failure of governance.

Speaking during an interview on The Morayo Show, Bwala maintained that governors bear primary responsibility for security and the effective use of resources meant for local development.

According to him, every case of kidnapping or abduction occurring in any state should be traced back to the governor, stressing that most of the incidents take place within local government areas.

Bwala also questioned the implementation of the Safe School Initiative, alleging that states received funds to improve security around schools through measures such as perimeter fencing, early warning systems and other protective infrastructure.

He challenged governors to account for how those funds were utilised.

The presidential aide further argued that insecurity would be significantly reduced if local governments had direct access to their statutory allocations, enabling them to address security and developmental challenges within their communities.

Citing his experience in Oyo State, Bwala claimed that some local governments receive hundreds of millions of naira every month, funds he believes could transform local communities if properly managed.

He said direct funding would improve healthcare, strengthen primary education, empower local vigilante groups, enhance community policing and provide better welfare for vulnerable residents.

Bwala insisted that allowing local governments to control and utilise their allocations effectively would go a long way in tackling insecurity and improving the quality of life at the grassroots.
