Atiku urges Tinubu to embrace ‘Nigeria first’ principles in governance

Atiku Abubakar, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has demanded that President Bola Tinubu’s administration adopt the “Nigeria First” ideals in its governance, rather than indulging in self-interest.

Atiku’s statement follows a post by Sunday Dare, the Special Adviser to the President on Public Communication and Orientation, who brazenly dismissed a meeting of opposition politicians and dissenting figures within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) as a mere politically motivated maneuver, driven by Machiavellian interests. Dare insisted that Tinubu remains “undistracted and unperturbed” by such gatherings, characterizing future political contests as a “combat” and a “fight” leading up to the 2027 elections.

In a powerful statement from his media adviser, Paul Ibe, Atiku unequivocally challenged the government to focus on uniting and healing the nation. He condemned any thoughtless comments about other countries and the questioning of Nigerians’ patriotism.

Atiku asserted, “It is utterly contradictory for the Tinubu administration, which rose to power under a philosophy of self-right to rule, to mock the patriotism of Nigerians. We demand that the government practice what it preaches and genuinely embrace the Nigeria First ideals instead of perpetuating self-entitlement and divisive sentiments.”

He emphasized that Nigeria has suffered from deep class, ethnic, and religious divisions since the advent of the Tinubu administration, and it is time for change.
