YouthGovTracka Holds Town Hall Meeting, Demand for Transparency and Accountability in Governance

In a resounding call for transparency and accountability from our political leaders, the Southwest Youth Focal Points of YouthGovTracka, operating under the auspices of Brain Builders Youth Development Initiative (BBYDI), orchestrated a pivotal town hall meeting in Ibadan. Themed “Bridging Youth and Governance: Uniting for Transparency and Accountability in Governance,” the event drew a diverse array of participants, including community leaders, young politicians, media personnel, civil society organizations, youth, students, and other stakeholders.

The Global Director of BBYDI, Abideen Olasupo, in his opening remark, introduced the YouthGovTracka project and the need for youth inclusivity in governance.

The highlight of the gathering was a dynamic panel discussion moderated by BBYDI’s Program Manager, Habeeb Adewale, and the presentation of the citizens’ accountability toolkit and menu of commitment. The panelists, Habeeb Daranijo, Omozele Umoren, Olaniran Abidemi, and Solomon Adewole, engaged in robust dialogue surrounding the imperative need for transparency and accountability in governance, addressing pressing issues pertinent to the theme.

Representing the six southwestern states, the YouthGovTracka team spearheading this groundbreaking initiative comprises Omozele Umoren (Ogun), Sunday Akinrelere (Ondo), Akinyemi Yusuf (Oyo), IfeOluwa Onileowo (Ekiti), Joseph Adeboye (Osun), and Abdulsalam Oluwatobi Sanni (Lagos). Their collective efforts underscore the commitment to fostering accountability and transparency in governance, with a particular emphasis on youth-centric policies and engagements.

YouthGovTracka, a project supported by the Youth Democracy Cohort and powered by the European Union, is dedicated to advancing accountability and transparency in governance across all 36 states in Nigeria, amplifying the voices of young people and catalyzing positive change in governance.
