‘You Don’t Expect Him To Wear Khaki And Fight’ — Adeboye Defends Tinubu Over Insecurity

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has defended President Bola Tinubu against criticism over Nigeria’s security challenges, saying the President has played his role by directing security agencies to confront insecurity.

Adeboye made the remarks while speaking at the US–Nigeria Faith Heroes Award Gala organised by the Save Nigeria Group in Washington, D.C.

Responding to concerns over worsening insecurity across the country, the cleric argued that it would be unrealistic to expect the President to personally take part in military operations.

“I don’t support those accusing the President of not doing enough. When the commander-in-chief has given instructions to his subordinates, he has done his bit. You don’t expect him to go and put on khaki and fight,” Adeboye said.

He compared Tinubu’s position to that of political leaders in other countries, including the United States, noting that presidents are expected to provide leadership and issue directives while security forces carry out operations on the ground.

Although he defended the President, Adeboye acknowledged that insecurity remains a serious concern in Nigeria.

According to him, terrorism and kidnapping, once considered more concentrated in Northern Nigeria, have spread into other regions, creating growing concern among citizens.

The cleric disclosed that he had personally discussed the security situation with President Tinubu and First Lady Oluremi Tinubu and suggested stronger accountability measures for security leadership.

He said he advised that military commanders should be given a clear timeline to significantly reduce insecurity or be replaced.

Adeboye also called for greater attention to individuals financing violent activities, alleging that some influential figures continue to sustain insecurity through financial support.

He further urged the United States and the international community to support Nigeria’s efforts in tackling terrorism and achieving lasting peace and security.
