WhatsApp Ends Support for Older Devices Starting June 1, 2025

Messaging platform WhatsApp has officially discontinued support for smartphones running outdated operating systems.

Effective June 1, 2025, users with older iPhones and Android devices will no longer be able to access the app unless their phones meet the new minimum system requirements. This move is part of WhatsApp’s continued efforts to enhance security and performance.

To continue using the app:

iPhones must run iOS 15.1 or later

Android phones must run Android 5.1 or above

As a result, models like the iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, Samsung Galaxy S4, and Sony Xperia Z1 have lost access.

Users of iPhone 6s, 6s Plus, and the first-generation iPhone SE can still use WhatsApp if their devices are updated to iOS 15.8.4.

For those unable to update, WhatsApp recommends backing up chat history and migrating to newer devices to avoid losing access.

This update aligns with Meta’s broader strategy to phase out legacy software support and maintain optimal app functionality across modern devices.
