Sunday Dare Dismisses Peter Obi’s Political Strength, Backs Tinubu’s Performance

Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Public Communications, Sunday Dare, has downplayed the political influence of Labour Party’s Peter Obi, saying the former Anambra State governor no longer poses a major challenge to the President.

Speaking on Mic On Podcast, Dare argued that the Tinubu administration’s record in office has altered Nigeria’s political atmosphere since the 2023 general election.

According to him, while Obi may previously have been viewed as a strong political opponent, the government now believes its performance has strengthened public confidence.

“Maybe before Peter Obi was a threat. Right now, Peter Obi is no threat because we stand on solid ground of performance,” Dare said.

He maintained that the administration has introduced policies and reforms aimed at addressing national challenges and believes its achievements provide a strong basis for public support.

Dare also criticised Obi’s style of public engagement, describing some of his comments and interviews as overly detailed and lacking clear direction.

“Peter Obi is not a nightmare. Maybe you’ll replace nightmare with a nuisance,” he stated.

Responding to references to Obi’s victory over Tinubu in Lagos during the 2023 presidential election, Dare insisted that political realities have changed.

“That was 2023. We’re talking about 2026,” he said.

When asked whether Obi could repeat such an outcome in a future election, Dare responded that he does not believe it would happen again.

He added that the Tinubu administration remains focused on implementing its Renewed Hope agenda rather than concentrating on political opposition.
