Senator Victor Umeh Rejects Bribery Allegations Over Rivers State Crisis

Senator Victor Umeh of Anambra Central has dismissed claims that he received a $10,000 bribe to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s proposed State of Emergency in Rivers State.

A recent report alleged that 42 senators were paid to endorse the suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara. However, Umeh described the accusation as baseless blackmail, insisting he was not involved in any such arrangement.

“I did not receive any money to support the state of emergency in Rivers State. I was not at any meeting where such payments were allegedly made,” he declared in a statement on Friday.

According to the senator, he was at an Iftar gathering at the Senate Guest House, where he led Christian prayers, and no discussions regarding emergency rule took place.

“We prayed for peace in Nigeria and reconciliation in Rivers State. There was no talk of emergency rule,” he clarified.

Umeh denounced the allegations as an attempt to tarnish his reputation and reassured his constituents of his commitment to integrity and transparency in leadership.
