Ondo Police Strengthen Security Ties with Fulani Community

In a bid to enhance security across Ondo State, Commissioner of Police Wilfred Olutokunbo Afolabi has met with members of the Fulani community in Ijebu-Owo, urging them to support efforts to curb criminal activities, especially kidnapping.

The meeting, held in Owo, aimed to foster cooperation and remind Fulani residents of their role in maintaining peace and stability. Afolabi cautioned against shielding criminals under the guise of ethnic solidarity and emphasized the need for intelligence-sharing to combat insecurity effectively.

Police Public Relations Officer Funmilayo Odunlami, in a statement, noted that the commissioner stressed the importance of collective responsibility in ensuring security. He called on the Fulani community to work closely with law enforcement and avoid harboring individuals involved in criminal acts.

Addressing tensions between herders and farmers, Afolabi advised against encroaching on farmlands, emphasizing that both agriculture and cattle rearing are vital to economic development. He urged both groups to coexist peacefully and resolve disputes amicably.

Leaders of the Fulani community commended the police for their proactive approach to maintaining law and order. They pledged their support in the fight against crime and assured the commissioner that they would not provide cover for criminals.

The Ondo State Police Command reiterated its commitment to safeguarding all residents and encouraged stronger community cooperation to make the state safer.
