Rescued Oyo pupils, teachers to undergo 48-hour medical observation — Makinde
Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has announced that the pupils and teachers rescued after spending 56 days in captivity will remain under medical observation for 48 hours before being handed over to the state government for rehabilitation.

The governor disclosed this on Saturday during a visit to the victims at the 2 Division Nigerian Army Medical Services Headquarters, Odogbo Barracks, Ibadan, where they are currently receiving treatment following their rescue.
Makinde described the successful operation as a moment of relief and gratitude for Oyo State, confirming that all 39 abducted pupils and five of the seven kidnapped teachers had been rescued safely.
According to him, the victims will undergo medical assessments and receive psychosocial support to aid their recovery from the physical and emotional trauma of their prolonged ordeal.
He also revealed that the rescue mission came at a great cost, with some security personnel losing their lives in the operation. The governor extended his condolences to the bereaved families, assuring them that the sacrifices of the fallen officers would never be forgotten.
Makinde noted that although the rescued victims were delighted to regain their freedom, many appeared physically weak and would require continued medical care and counselling.
He further disclosed that arrangements were underway to reunite the victims with their families, mentioning that one of the rescued children had repeatedly asked to see her mother since regaining freedom.
The governor urged Nigerians to remain united in addressing the country’s security challenges, stressing that difficult times should inspire collective action rather than division.
He added that the Oyo State Government would, in the coming week, provide a detailed briefing on the circumstances surrounding the abduction and the security efforts that led to the successful rescue of the victims.
