Court’s Decision Affirms Due Process; Public Advised to Disregard Misleading Narratives by Suspended Amotekun Officer

  • The attention of the Ondo State Security Network Agency (Amotekun Corps) has been drawn to the continued circulation of misleading statements and malicious commentaries by Mr. Akinsipe Victor Tope, who has sought to portray himself as a credible voice on matters relating to the Agency.

For the avoidance of doubt, Mr. Akinsipe Victor Tope is currently under suspension from the Ondo State Amotekun Corps. Consequently, he does not possess the authority, mandate, or official capacity to issue statements or speak on behalf of the Agency, its leadership, or its personnel. Any publication or commentary credited to him represents his personal opinion alone and should not be mistaken for the official position of the Corps.

Furthermore, a recent court ruling reaffirmed the importance of due process and the rule of law. The Court found that there were sufficient grounds for the relevant authorities to investigate Mr. Akinsipe Victor Tope and others over allegations including criminal defamation and acts capable of inciting the public against the leadership of the Ondo State Amotekun Corps.

The Court also made it clear that law enforcement agencies are legally empowered to investigate and, where necessary, prosecute any individual in accordance with the law.

The ruling serves as a clear reminder that no individual is above the law. Attempts to evade lawful investigation through misinformation, public propaganda, or unfounded allegations cannot override the constitutional responsibilities of law enforcement agencies or interfere with the administration of justice.

The Corps therefore urges members of the public to exercise caution and refrain from placing reliance on publications, commentaries, or allegations made by Mr. Akinsipe Victor Tope regarding the affairs of the Ondo State Amotekun Corps. Such statements are made in his personal capacity and do not, under any circumstance, reflect the position, policies, or decisions of the Agency.

The Ondo State Amotekun Corps remains steadfast in its commitment to professionalism, discipline, transparency, and the protection of lives and property across Ondo State. Under the leadership of the Commander Akogun Adetunji Adeleye, the Corps will continue to discharge its statutory responsibilities within the ambit of the law and will not be distracted by campaigns of misinformation or deliberate attempts to undermine public confidence in the institution.

Members of the public are therefore advised to obtain information concerning the Ondo State Amotekun Corps only through the Agency’s official communication channels and duly authorized spokespersons.

The Ondo State Amotekun Corps appreciates the continued support, trust, and cooperation of the good people of Ondo State and remains resolute in its mission to ensure the safety and security of all residents.
