Ondo:Pastor Withdraws From Public Ministry After Apologising for Pre-Marital Affairs

By Asaye Bankole

Apostle Sam Adegoke, a pastor with Elijah Generation Church in Akure, Ondo State, has announced his withdrawal from public ministry following an apology over sexual relationships he had before his marriage.

Adegoke, who recently got married, disclosed his decision in a statement released on Monday, saying he had taken a step back from ministry activities and social media to reflect on his past and seek guidance.

The pastor admitted that he had engaged in sexual relationships with women before his marriage, describing the experiences as actions he deeply regretted.

He said he accepted responsibility for his conduct and acknowledged that his actions fell short of the standards of integrity, holiness and self-control expected of him as a Christian minister.

Adegoke said he was not using the fact that the relationships occurred before his marriage as an excuse.

According to him, he has been seeking spiritual guidance as well as pastoral and professional counselling while examining his past conduct.

He expressed his apology to the women involved for any pain or harm they may have suffered as a result of his actions.

He also apologised to his wife, family, church members, colleagues and others who had entrusted him with spiritual leadership.

Explaining his decision to withdraw from public ministry, Adegoke said the move was part of his effort to take responsibility, make necessary changes and demonstrate genuine repentance through his actions.

He further stated that repentance should be reflected in changed behaviour, accountability and a willingness to face the consequences of one’s actions.

The cleric said he would continue to subject himself to appropriate spiritual, pastoral and professional accountability as he works through the situation.

He also appealed to members of the public to pray for him, stressing that he was not seeking to have his past actions excused.

Adegoke said he hoped to have the humility and courage to confront his past honestly, make amends where necessary and protect those affected by his actions.

He concluded by expressing deep regret and reaffirming his commitment to living and serving with greater integrity, responsibility and accountability.

Following the disclosure, Adegoke and his wife reportedly disabled comments on their respective Instagram accounts.
