Ondo State House of Assembly charged the Management of the State College of Health Technology, Akure, not to compromise standards in order to produce qualified health professionals in line with the global best practices.

The Committee equally tasked the Administrative Secretary of Drugs and Health Commodities Management Agency on regular supply of drugs to health facilities across the State, particularly, the rural areas.

The House Committee on Health,led by its Chairman, Hon Dr.Christopher Ogunlana gave the advice when he led other members on an oversight function to the College and the Agency in Akure.

At the College of Health Technology, the Committee commended the institution for being one of the best in the Country, assuring legislative support for optimal performance.

The Committee stressed the need to ensure that the graduates are assisted to quickly get their licence to enable them practice at the right time, assuring that all the challenges of the college would be channelled to the Special Adviser (SA)to the Governor on infrastructure so that adequate attention could be given.

While advising the school Management to ensure zero tolerance to social vices, especially cultism, they maintained that regular monitoring and evaluation of Staff and students is essential.

At the Drugs and Health Commodities Management Agency ,the Committee commended the great improvement in the Agency compared to the last time they visited.

The lawmakers observing that some health facilities are not being provided with enough drugs added that the agency must rise up to the occasion.

The Committee said the Agency
should ensure proper monitoring of drugs’ supply to appointed places , noted that the Agency is very important to qualitative health care delivery.

Earlier, the Provost of the College,Dr.Emoruwa Oluwole Oluwambe highlighting achievements and challenges ,sought for the assistance of the Committee .

According to him, infrastructural development is needed in areas like more lecture theaters,offices, hostels,CBT center, road network, modern halls, among others.

He explained that it’s products are being searched/ sought for all over the country because of their excellent performance in their various fields .

The Provost who affirmed that the management value standard and did not compromise quality training, said monitoring and evaluation has always been taken seriously , as well as zero tolerance to cultism .

Also,the Executive Secretary, Drugs and Health Commodities Management Agency, Pharmacist (Dr) Amos Ayegbusi said that the establishment of the Agency is a landmark project to ensure quality drugs availability and affordability in all the health facilities across the State .

He noted that the facility is one of the largest in the South West.

Ayegbusi added that the Agency took it as a responsibility to supply drugs to facilities within a week of making orders online with a designed proof of delivery which must be duly sign by the recipient at the facilities supplied .

He advocated for increased capitation of health facilities for drugs sustainability because of current high prices ,informing that scan machine is used to validate drugs at the facility before supplying .
