Nigerian Healthcare Worker Jailed in UK for S+xual Assault on Immobile Patient

Adewale Kudabo, a 47-year-old Nigerian healthcare assistant, has been sentenced to 12 months in prison in the United Kingdom for s+xu@lly assaulting a vulnerable female patient at York Hospital—just nine months after his arrival in the country.

Kudabo pleaded guilty to two counts of s+xu@l assault before the York Crown Court on Tuesday. Prosecutors revealed that the victim, nearly immobile due to a severe medical condition, was assaulted twice while bedridden.

The first incident occurred after Kudabo administered a bed bath and k+ssed the patient on the lips, despite her attempts to turn away. Days later, he returned and repeated the unwanted act, even though the woman declined another bath.

“She was in a lot of pain and almost completely dependent on others for her care,” said Prosecutor Henry Fernandez.

Kudabo, who was residing in the South Bank area of York and working at the hospital, told police he had only k+ssed the patient on the forehead as a gesture of sympathy. However, the court rejected that claim.

In a victim impact statement, the woman described enduring significant emotional trauma, including anxiety, fear, helplessness, depression, and recurring flashbacks.

His lawyer, Jerry Sodipe, acknowledged the wrongdoing but noted Kudabo’s previously clean record.

In his ruling, Judge Alex Menary stated, “You abused the trust placed in you as a carer. She was particularly vulnerable, immobile, and dependent on you.” He confirmed that the contact was to the lips and emphasized the need for a custodial sentence to reflect the severity of the violation.

Kudabo will serve half his sentence behind bars and the remainder on licence. He has also been added to the UK’s s+x offenders register for 10 years.
