National Assembly Halts Legislative Activities for One Week to Mourn Late President Buhari
The National Assembly has suspended all legislative proceedings for seven days to honour the passing of former President Muhammadu Buhari, who died on Sunday, July 13, 2025, in London at the age of 82.

The announcement was made on Monday by the Clerk to the National Assembly, Kamoru Ogunlana, via an official statement.
“The National Assembly of the Federal Republic of Nigeria mourns the passing of His Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, former President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, who died yesterday in London, United Kingdom,” the statement read.
According to the directive, all legislative activities will be suspended until Tuesday, July 22, 2025, in recognition of Buhari’s legacy and service to the nation.
Lawmakers have been advised to reschedule their engagements to participate fully in the funeral proceedings. The leadership of the Senate and House of Representatives also extended heartfelt condolences to the Buhari family, the government and people of Nigeria, and the people of Katsina State.
“President Muhammadu Buhari will be remembered for his dedication to national unity and unwavering integrity. May Almighty Allah grant his soul eternal rest in Aljannatul Firdaus,” the statement concluded.
