Ministry of Interior unveils contactless passport renewal system
The Federal Ministry of Interior has launched the Contactless Passport Renewal System across Europe after its successful implementation in Canada.
Speaking at the event, The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo said it marks yet another pivotal moment in the government’s commitment to streamline and enhance the efficiency of government services for Nigerians both at home and abroad in line with the Renewed Hope agenda of the administration.
The new system aims to simplify the passport renewal process for Nigerians living in Europe, allowing them to complete the renewal without the need for physical visits to embassies or consulates.
Minister Tunji-Ojo emphasized that the initiative is part of a broader strategy to leverage technology in delivering public services, making it easier for citizens to access essential services regardless of their location. He noted that the successful rollout in Canada served as a model for this expansion, demonstrating the potential for digital solutions to improve service delivery.
The Contactless Passport Renewal System is designed to be user-friendly, enabling applicants to submit their documents and payments online. This innovation is expected to reduce processing times and enhance the overall experience for Nigerians abroad, who often face challenges with traditional passport renewal methods.
