LET’S PROMOTE OUR CULTURE– Chief LaCrown Adeyemi

The President of Egbe Omo Yoruba of Greater New York, who doubles as the President of Ikaram Progressive Union (IPU) Worldwide, a Wartime Veteran of the United States Air Force and former Police Officer, with the New York Police Department, Chief (Dr.) Odomode Adeyemi LaCrown has urged both the government and individuals to promote our culture so that it will not go into extinction.

In his welcome address during the final performance of a playlet organized for the primary schools in Akoko North West Local Government, with the theme, “ISE LOOGUN ISE”.

The convener said the reason for the competition is to revive our culture, especially amongst the young generation as it is evident that it is now going into extinction.

He said, ” The reason for the competition is to revive our culture, which is now going into extinction.

The foreign language copied from the Western world is a borrowed language that has affected our language and our culture.

We now think about how we can bring back the culture in which we were known and what can we do to promote the Yoruba language as we do not want our culture to go into the dustbin of history.

Our language and culture speak volumes of our identity. If you see a Hausa going, though a Nigerian, the only way to know him or her is by the identity. Likewise the Yoruba and the Igbos”, he said.

Chief Odomode Adeyemi LaCrown stated further that some of this problem comes from individual homes.

” Some of this problem comes from individual homes. Some parents don’t allow their children to speak their mother tongues. They prefer to speak the borrowed language, which is the English language.

Our job as parents is to allow our children to speak our mother language, and this will promote our culture. “
