Laurel Ojo, The Voice of Verita, Bags D Chronicle Media Award

D Chronicle Media Ventures will mark its 13th anniversary with a lecture and awards ceremony to honour Mrs. Laurel Ojo Mubo Oyin as the Media Luminary of the Year. The award recognises her contributions to broadcasting, journalism, sports, public communication, and media development.
The event is scheduled for Sunday, August 30, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at the OSDPC Multipurpose Event Hall, Ijapo Estate, Akure, Ondo State. The theme of the anniversary is “Agenda 2027: Leadership, Accountability, Progress.”
Hon. Dayo Awude, former Commissioner for Youth and Sports in Ondo State, will serve as Guest Speaker and deliver the keynote address. Prince Eni Akinsola, Public Analyst and Chief Operating Officer of Agogo Publishers Ltd, will chair the occasion.
Special Guests expected at the event include Akogun Adetunji Adeleye, Amotekun Commander, Ondo State, and Prince Ebenezer Adeniyan, Chief Press Secretary to the Ondo State Governor. The Special Guest of Honour is His Excellency Dr. Lucky Orimisan Ayedatiwa, Governor of Ondo State.
The Royal Fathers of the Day are HRM Rotimi Obamuwagun Nwade I, Olumoru of Imoru Kingdom, and HRM Oba Engr. Ademola Adebiyi Oyinbade, Olanipekun III, PhD, Oloba of Uso.
The ceremony will bring together policymakers, media practitioners, traditional rulers, civil society actors, students, and other stakeholders to discuss leadership, accountability, and national development ahead of 2027.
Laurel Ojo Mubo Oyin is an indigene of Ile-Oluji in Ondo State. She attended Baptist Primary School, Ile-Oluji, and Aunty Ayo Comprehensive High School, Ikoyi, Lagos. She studied Biology at the University of Lagos and obtained a Certificate in Computer Science from the Federal College of Education Technical, Akoka. She earned a Master of Business Administration degree from the Federal University of Technology, Akure, in 2005. In 2023 she obtained a Postgraduate Diploma in Mass Communication and is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Mass Communication.
In sports, she represented Ondo State as a national squash athlete between 2000 and 2003, winning one gold, one silver, and one bronze medal. She served as an International Squash Referee at KOJA Abuja in 2003. While at FUTA, she won two gold medals and one bronze medal representing the institution at the Nigerian University Games.
She has undergone training in Broadcast Media Management, Public Speaking, Creative Writing, Voice Over, Presentation, Conflict Prevention and Resolution, Industrial Relations, and Globalisation.
Ojo made history as the first elected female Chairman of the Radio, Television, Theatre and Arts Workers Union, RATTAWU, in Ondo State. She is a member of the Ondo State Netball Association and Secretary General of the Nigeria Rope Skipping Federation.
In broadcasting, she has worked as Manager, Sports and Outside Broadcast at the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, Positive FM 102.5, Akure. She has also served as a news reader, on-air personality, presenter, and producer.
Her awards include Sporting Excellence Award by FUTA, Best Announcer at FRCN Positive FM, Outstanding Presenter of the Year by Chronicle Magazine in 2018, and Award of Honour from RATTAWU FRIN, Akure Chapter. She has also received Ekun Ujama Journalist of the Year, Ultimate Broadcaster of the Year 2015, Most Outstanding Fellow Comrade in Ondo State, Female Presenter of the Year, and Broadcaster of the Year at the OWOMADE Media Awards in 2011.
For 13 years, D Chronicle Media Ventures has operated Chronicle TV, Chronicle Online, and Chronicle Magazine, with a focus on truth, knowledge, accountability, and national development. The anniversary will feature a keynote lecture, award presentations, and discussions on leadership and accountability.
