The family of late Yoruba movie actor Taiwo Hassan, widely known as Ogogo, has announced October 2, 2026, for a special prayer gathering to mark 40 days since his death.
The actor’s daughter, Kira Taiwo, disclosed the plan on Wednesday in a post shared on Instagram, inviting relatives, friends, colleagues, associates and other well-wishers to attend the ceremony.
The prayer is scheduled to commence at noon at the Asade Agunloye Pavilion Ground in Ilaro-Yewa, Ogun State.
A poster announcing the event carried a photograph of the late actor alongside an invitation for guests to attend the 40-day prayer for Alh. Al-Hassan Babatunde Taiwo, popularly called Ogogo.
The gathering is expected to attract members of the late actor’s family and several personalities from the Yoruba film industry, including colleagues and associates who worked closely with him during his career.
Beyond the religious ceremony, the event is also expected to provide an opportunity for loved ones and members of the entertainment community to remember Ogogo and reflect on his impact on Yoruba-language filmmaking.
Ogogo died on August 23, 2026, at the age of 66, after spending more than four decades in the Nigerian entertainment industry.
He was laid to rest in Ilaro, Ogun State, on August 24, a day after his death.
His passing generated reactions across the Nigerian film industry, with colleagues and fans paying tribute to his years of service and contribution to Yoruba cinema.
During his career, Ogogo became a familiar face in Nollywood, particularly within the Yoruba film sector, where he built a reputation through numerous acting roles and his involvement in indigenous-language productions.
The forthcoming prayer is being organised in line with Islamic tradition and will form part of the family’s remembrance activities following his death.
For the family, the gathering will be an opportunity to honour the memory of the late actor, while friends, colleagues and admirers will have the chance to come together, offer prayers and celebrate his life and legacy.
The family has therefore invited those who knew Ogogo, worked with him or followed his career to join them at the prayer gathering in Ilaro on October 2.
