Lagos Cracks Down on Illegal Waste Disposal, Arrests Man for Dumping Refuse in Drainage
The Lagos State Government has arrested a 56-year-old man, John Ehidreme, for allegedly dumping refuse into a drainage channel in the Ikorodu area of the state.

The Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, announced the arrest on Tuesday through his official X account, stressing that indiscriminate waste disposal remains a serious violation of the state’s environmental laws.
According to Wahab, the suspect was apprehended at No. 18 Oluoga Street, Ikorodu, after he was caught disposing of waste into a drainage channel.
He warned that such actions obstruct water channels, contribute to flooding, and pose significant environmental and public health risks.
The commissioner urged residents to dispose of their refuse responsibly and make use of only government-approved waste management operators.
The arrest is part of the Lagos State Government’s ongoing enforcement campaign against environmental offenders as authorities intensify efforts to keep drainage systems free of waste and reduce the risk of flooding across the state.
A video shared by the government captured the suspect shortly after his arrest, reinforcing the state’s commitment to enforcing environmental sanitation laws and holding offenders accountable.
