‘It’s Like Day and Night’: Gov Sule Rates Tinubu-Shettima Above Opposition Rivals

Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, has declared that the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential ticket of President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima is far ahead of the opposition ahead of the 2027 general election.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Tuesday, Sule dismissed comparisons between the APC ticket and opposition pairings, including Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso, as well as Atiku Abubakar and Rotimi Amaechi.

According to the governor, the Tinubu administration’s record in office distinguishes it from its political rivals.

“It is like day and night; you cannot even compare,” Sule said, citing what he described as the President’s courage, leadership, performance and foresight over the past three years.

Addressing concerns over insecurity, the governor acknowledged the challenge but argued that the problem predates the current administration.

He maintained that despite the security situation, the Tinubu government had recorded significant achievements in infrastructure, education and the economy.

Sule highlighted ongoing infrastructure projects across the country, the activities of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) and growth in the capital market as evidence of the administration’s performance.

He also expressed confidence that President Tinubu’s bid for a second term would be determined by his achievements in office rather than electoral manipulation.

The governor further pointed to the APC’s growing political influence, noting that the party now controls 31 state governments across the country.

On the controversy surrounding the Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket, Sule defended the arrangement, insisting that it had not resulted in the exclusion or marginalisation of any religious group in government.

He recalled that Nigeria witnessed a similar political arrangement during the late Moshood Kashimawo Olawale (MKO) Abiola’s presidential campaign, arguing that competence should take precedence over religious considerations in leadership.

Sule’s comments come amid increasing political realignments ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

While President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima are expected to seek re-election on the APC platform, Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso have emerged as the presidential and vice-presidential candidates of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi are also leading another opposition alliance under the African Democratic Congress (ADC), setting the stage for a highly contested 2027 presidential race.
