IGP Condemns Mob Action in Edo, Orders Investigation
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, has strongly condemned the violent mob action carried out against a group of travelers by a local vigilante group along the Uromi-Obajana Road in Edo State.

The travelers, who claimed to be hunters, were found in possession of 19 locally fabricated firearms. However, the vigilantes, unsatisfied with their explanation, suspected them of being kidnappers. Instead of handing them over to law enforcement, they resorted to mob justice, leading to tragic consequences.
According to police spokesman ACP Muyiwa Adejobi, the Edo State Police Command swiftly intervened, restoring order and arresting 14 suspects, while a manhunt is ongoing for others involved.
The IGP has directed DIG Sadiq Abubakar of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) to take over the case for a thorough and impartial investigation. He reassured the public of the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to upholding the rule of law, warning against extrajudicial actions.
Furthermore, the police emphasized that the unlawful possession of firearms remains a crime under Nigerian law. Citizens in possession of unlicensed weapons are urged to surrender them to the authorities or follow legal procedures for licensing.
The public is advised to refrain from jungle justice and report suspicious activities to law enforcement agencies.
