House Fire: Two Children Perish Despite Heroic Attempts in Ondo
People of the Oluwatuyi area in Akure, Ondo State, are in mourning after two young siblings tragically lost their lives in a devastating house fire.

The incident occurred around 1:30 p.m. and lasted approximately two hours, completely engulfing the room where the children were trapped.
The victims, Jenson (3) and Jenlite (5), were burned beyond recognition. Neighbors made heroic attempts to rescue them, but the intense flames blocked any access to the room.
At this time, the cause of the fire remains undetermined. Reports indicate that the children were locked inside the house by their mother, who had gone to the market, leaving them unattended for nearly three hours.
Eyewitnesses confirm that a neighbor first spotted the fire, but it was initially unclear that the children were inside. One neighbor, Ibrahim, recalled hearing the children’s cries for help from the room. Despite their valiant efforts to extinguish the fire and rescue the children, they were forced back by the flames.
Ibrahim alleged that the mother may have left a gas stove on before leaving the house. “We did everything we could, but we couldn’t get inside,” Ibrahim stated. “We then called the Fire Service, but all efforts proved futile.”
The incident has profoundly shocked the community, with many neighbors and sympathizers describing the tragedy as unbearable. Reports indicate that the children’s father collapsed upon witnessing their charred remains.
