By Francis Adewumi
A former Governorship Aspirant under defunct Social Democratic Party (SDP) in old Ondo State, Pa. Dr Olajide Akinyemi , has called on youth across the country to engage in Agricultural activities rather than investing their time in cyber-crime.
Pa Akinyemi said this during a facility tour to his Farm, Akinyemi Organic Farm Ltd at Ijebu Agege Area of Ikole Local Government Area of the State, recently.
He said he is committed to revamping the Agricultural sector.
“ The Sector remains the sustainable means of advancing the nation’s economy.”
According to him, “Agriculture is essential and it pays. This is the way to go if we are serious and genuine in the quest to stimulate our economy,” he said.
“Agriculture is a lucrative business, unlike before, when subsistence farming was the order of the day. Now, Agriculture has gone beyond that, as mechanized and digital farming have become the order of the day.
“As an individual, I am working assiduously with my team to breathe a new life into Agricultural sector, and make it the most vibrant and profitable means of stimulating and advancing the economy of the country especially. Our State Government.
“We are bringing in a revitalisation template that will help to support the needs of our farmers in terms of educating them in the type of soil that will not bring ebola tomatoes diseases and as well attract the young ones into farming. The present economic realities have called for the need for everyone to develop interest in Agriculture, as the sector remains the sustainable means of advancing the nation’s economy.
“So, I urge our youths to show interest in Agriculture and shun illegal means of getting rich. There is no gain in cyber-crime, there is no future in illegitimate means of survival, youths must desist from these acts, and embrace Agriculture for survival.
“Agriculture is lucrative, productive and profitable if we all decide to invest in it. The State Government should also encourage we people by providing tractors and things at a cheaper price. Let’s go back to the farm to make our State to be sufficient in food productions and as well have much to export,” he said.
Pa.Akinyemi the owner of over 16 hecters of tomatoes plantation, 15 hecters of yam plantation, a lot of cassava plantation and many other arable crops said his decision to invest in the Agriculture is aimed at empowering the people, particularly the young ones and the people in Ekiti to start.
According to him, Tomato farming is the cultivation of Tomatoes for the production of Tomato fruits which brings food to the table of a middle man”,
“The cultivation of Tomatoes can be profitable if done in the right way. Tomato farming can be done in the open fields and harvested after 60–90 days, depending on variety”.
He encouraged youths in the State to come into the Agricultural space, urging them to capitalize and maximize the opportunities in Agriculture production, processing and marketing.
He also called on Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji to visit the farm to see what a man 82 has done to boost agriculture in the State.
