Titi Kushimo, popularly known as Titi Kush, a writer, media personality and creative strategist, is set to be honoured at the 2026 Southwest Legends Lecture and Awards, organised by D Chronicle Media Ventures.
Kushimo is being recognised for her contributions to African literature, creative expression, cultural development and the creation of platforms that promote meaningful conversations around African identity, stories and development.
The prestigious event, themed “Legends of Service: The Southwest Blueprint for Nation Building,” will take place on Thursday, October 22, 2026, at the Olusegun Aganga Hall, International Conference Centre, University of Ibadan, Oyo State. The programme is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.
The annual Southwest Legends Lecture and Awards is designed to celebrate individuals whose work and contributions in various fields continue to influence society, promote development and contribute to the cultural and intellectual advancement of the Southwest and Nigeria.
Championing African Stories Through Creativity
Kushimo is the founder of the Afro-Literary Fashion Concert (ALFC), a creative cultural platform that brings together literature, fashion, music and meaningful conversations to promote cultural engagement and development in Africa.
Through AfroLiterary, she has created a growing platform connecting Africans on the continent and in the diaspora, providing opportunities to engage with African stories, examine important social issues and strengthen cultural connections.
From curated conversations to the flagship Afro-Literary Fashion Concert, her work seeks to create spaces where African stories can be seen, heard and experienced through diverse creative expressions.
Blending Peace Studies With Creative Storytelling
Beyond her work in the creative and cultural sector, Kushimo draws from her academic background in Peace and Conflict Studies to explore complex issues from a human-centred perspective.
Her approach involves translating complex social and cultural concepts into relatable issues and conversations that resonate with everyday experiences.
She is also the author of Not A Perfect Story, published by Safari Books. The book offers a witty and reflective exploration of coming of age in the Global South.
Through her writing, media work and cultural initiatives, Kushimo continues to contribute to conversations surrounding African identity, creativity, culture and social development.
Distinguished Line-Up for Southwest Legends Event
The 2026 Southwest Legends Lecture and Awards will feature a lecture, awards presentation and the launch of a special publication dedicated to the 2026 Southwest Legends.
Professor Ambrose Ayelari, former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, is scheduled to deliver the lecture, while Comrade Adewale Adeyanju, former President-General of the Maritime Workers Union, will serve as Chairman of the occasion.
His Excellency, Engr. Seyi Makinde, Governor of Oyo State, is expected to attend as the Special Guest of Honour.
The event is expected to attract academics, writers, entrepreneurs, creative professionals, cultural advocates, community leaders and other stakeholders who will gather to celebrate individuals whose contributions to service, creativity, leadership and development have made an impact.
