At least 11 people are feared dead following an early-morning attack by suspected terrorists on Zaranga village in Gombi Local Government Area of Adamawa State.
According to residents, the attackers, suspected to be members of Boko Haram, invaded the community in the early hours of Monday, shooting at residents and setting several houses on fire.
A resident who spoke by phone said 11 bodies had so far been recovered, while several other people remained missing.
He said security personnel and local search teams were combing nearby forests in an effort to locate those unaccounted for.
“For now, 11 dead bodies have been recovered. Many people are still missing. Search teams and security personnel are in the forest searching for the missing people,” the resident said.
Another resident confirmed that the attack had claimed members of his family, saying his wife and two other relatives were among those killed.
“My wife and two of my family members were also killed during the early morning invasion of my village,” he said.
The attack has reportedly left the community in shock and fear, with residents awaiting further intervention from security agencies.
Attempts to obtain confirmation from the Adamawa State Police Command were unsuccessful.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Nguroje, did not respond to several calls seeking clarification on the incident.
The exact number of casualties remains uncertain as search operations continue, and more details are expected from the authorities.
