Nollywood faith-based movie Agbara Nla: The Return has grossed more than ₦307.2 million at the Nigerian box office, securing its position as the fourth highest-grossing Nollywood film of 2026.
The film’s distributor, Nile Group, announced the achievement in a post on Instagram on Friday, expressing appreciation to moviegoers for their overwhelming support and describing the milestone as a major success for the production.
According to the distributor, the movie has also set a new record as the highest-grossing Nollywood film ever released in October, highlighting its remarkable performance in cinemas.
“Thank you, Nigeria! Agbára Nlá: The Return has grossed ₦307.2m+, the highest-grossing Nollywood title ever for an October release and the fourth highest-grossing Nollywood title of 2026,” Nile Group stated.
The latest box-office figure represents a significant increase from the more than ₦170.6 million the film generated within its first four days in cinemas, indicating sustained audience interest since its release.
On October 5, Nile Group announced the film’s initial box-office performance, celebrating its impressive opening and attributing the achievement to divine grace.
“The revival is here. The power is moving. Agbara Nla: The Return opened with ₦170.6m+. It can only be God,” the distributor said.
The company also acknowledged the strong reception from cinema audiences, noting that several locations recorded packed halls and sold-out screenings as moviegoers turned out to watch the production.
“Thank you, everyone, for the packed cinemas, SOLD-OUT shows and incredible love,” the distributor added.
Nile Group had earlier described the film’s opening performance as the biggest opening weekend for a non-December Nollywood release, the biggest October opening weekend and the highest opening weekend ever recorded by a faith-based film in the Nigerian film industry.
The film’s commercial success underscores the growing box-office potential of faith-based productions in Nollywood, particularly movies that combine religious themes, compelling storytelling and contemporary filmmaking to attract audiences across different age groups.
Agbara Nla: The Return is a remake of the 1993 Christian film created by renowned Nigerian filmmaker and evangelist Mike Bamiloye.
The original production gained widespread popularity among Christian audiences and became one of the notable works in Nigeria’s faith-based filmmaking sector.
The remake was directed by Bamiloye’s sons, Damilola Mike-Bamiloye and Joshua “Jay Mikee” Mike-Bamiloye, who’s reimagined the story for a new generation of viewers while retaining its Christian foundation.
The film returned to cinemas on October 1, 2026, more than three decades after the original production was released.
Its strong opening, subsequent revenue growth and continued audience turnout have established it as one of Nollywood’s notable releases of the year. With earnings exceeding ₦307.2 million, Agbara Nla:
The Return has further demonstrated the commercial appeal of religious-themed films in Nigeria’s increasingly competitive cinema market.
