Abbas Hails Tinubu’s Reforms, Says President Chose Nation-Building Over Political Convenience

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, has commended President Bola Tinubu for what he described as courageous reforms aimed at repositioning Nigeria for long-term growth and stability.

Marking the administration’s third anniversary, Abbas said the
President inherited a country grappling with major economic and security challenges, including fuel subsidy burdens, foreign exchange instability, dwindling revenues, insecurity, and declining investor confidence.

According to him, rather than choosing politically convenient options, Tinubu embraced difficult reforms designed to address deep-rooted national problems and lay a stronger foundation for future development.

The Speaker noted that key economic indicators have shown signs of improvement under the administration, citing growth in the nation’s Gross Domestic Product, increased external reserves, and higher revenue allocations to states and local governments following the removal of fuel subsidy and foreign exchange reforms.

He also pointed to rising foreign investment inflows and the implementation of major infrastructure projects, including strategic highway developments across the country, as evidence of ongoing economic transformation.

On security, Abbas said increased budgetary allocations have strengthened efforts against terrorism, banditry, and crude oil theft, while improvements in oil production have contributed positively to government revenue.

He further highlighted achievements in the education sector, noting that more than one million students have benefited from the Nigerian Education Loan Fund, providing greater access to higher education.

While acknowledging concerns over inflation and the rising cost of living, Abbas maintained that the reforms were necessary sacrifices required to restore economic stability and ensure sustainable growth.

He expressed confidence that the administration’s policies would continue to yield positive results and called on Nigerians to support the government’s efforts toward national development.
