Ghana Approves Tough Anti-LGBTQ Bill Amid Growing Debate
Ghana’s Parliament has passed a controversial anti-LGBTQ bill that seeks to impose stricter penalties on individuals involved in same-sex relationships and activities promoting LGBTQ rights.

The proposed legislation, which has generated intense debate both within and outside the country, prescribes prison terms for people found engaging in same-sex acts. It also targets individuals, groups, and organisations accused of promoting, funding, or advocating LGBTQ activities.
Supporters of the bill argue that it is aimed at protecting Ghanaian cultural, religious, and family values. They maintain that the legislation reflects the beliefs and traditions of the majority of citizens.
However, critics have raised concerns that the bill could lead to discrimination, restrict freedom of expression, and violate fundamental human rights. Several civil society groups and international organisations have also expressed worries over the potential impact of the law on affected individuals.
The bill is expected to undergo further constitutional processes before it can fully take effect.
