Power Outage Temporary, Electricity to Be Restored Within 48 Hours — Adelabu
The Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, has assured Nigerians that electricity supply across the country will be restored within 24 to 48 hours following the recent nationwide power drop.
The outage was caused by gas supply disruptions linked to an explosion on the Escravos–Lagos Gas Pipeline and acts of vandalism on gas facilities in the Niger Delta, which affected supply to several thermal power plants and led to a decline in electricity generation.

The Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) confirmed that the incidents resulted in reduced power output from gas-fired plants, creating supply shortfalls to consumers nationwide.
NISO disclosed that repair works are currently ongoing, being handled by the Nigerian Gas Processing and Transportation Company, a subsidiary of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), with full restoration expected within the stated timeline.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Strategic Communications and Media Relations, Bolaji Tunji, Adelabu acknowledged the inconvenience caused to households and businesses, assuring Nigerians that the situation is temporary.
“The Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, has assured Nigerians that electricity supply will be rapidly restored following the recent decline caused by a temporary shortfall in power supply. The situation is expected to be resolved within the next 24 to 48 hours,” the statement said.
The minister reiterated the assurance during a stakeholders’ meeting held on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, in Abuja, which brought together officials of NISO, the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), power generation and distribution companies, as well as representatives of the Ministry of Power.
Adelabu stressed the urgency of restoring electricity supply, particularly with increased demand during the Yuletide season, and directed all relevant agencies to intensify efforts to meet the restoration deadline.
He appealed to Nigerians for patience and understanding, assuring them that measures are being taken to stabilize power supply and prevent future disruptions.
