Senate Awaits Certified True Copy of Court Ruling on Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan Before Taking Action

The Nigerian Senate has acknowledged the Federal High Court’s recent judgment involving Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan but insists it will not take any action until it receives the Certified True Copy (CTC) of the ruling.

This was disclosed on Sunday by Senator Yemi Adaramodu, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Media and Public Affairs, who stressed that the CTC is crucial for a comprehensive legal review and to determine the appropriate steps.

“The Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria acknowledges that judgment was delivered on July 4th by the Federal High Court, Abuja, in the suit instituted by Sen. Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan. However, the Senate is yet to be served with the Certified True Copy (CTC) of the said judgment,” he stated.

Adaramodu explained that the Senate’s legal team, which was present in court, confirmed the full judgment was not read publicly. He further noted that the Senate has applied for the CTC to determine whether any direct order was issued by the court nullifying Akpoti-Uduaghan’s suspension.

“Since no party to the case has been officially served the enrolled order of the judgment, none can enforce any perceived order or relief,” Adaramodu added.

He reiterated that until the Senate receives and thoroughly reviews the court’s ruling, it will refrain from any action that might affect its legal standing. He assured Nigerians that the Senate remains committed to due process and the rule of law, urging the public to remain calm and await further developments.
