95 Suspected Cultists Arrested in Edo, Firearms Recovered in Major Crackdown
The Edo State Police Command has arrested 95 suspected cultists and seized multiple firearms and ammunition during a week-long operation targeting cult-related violence in the Benin metropolis.

In a statement released Saturday, the command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Moses Yamu, confirmed that officers recovered two locally made pistols, a single-barrel shotgun, and 24 live cartridges during intelligence-driven raids.
The suspects are believed to be members of the Maphites, Eiye, and Aye confraternities groups authorities link to recent cult supremacy killings in the state.
Commissioner of Police Monday Agbonika warned youths against joining unlawful societies and urged parents to closely monitor their children’s activities. “These groups destroy futures and end lives, both of members and innocent citizens,” he emphasized.
Yamu added that 64 of the suspects have been charged and remanded, while investigations continue into the remaining cases. The command reassured Edo residents of its commitment to dismantling cult networks and restoring public safety.
