Dr. Seye Oyeleye, DG DAWN Commission, Others to Be Honoured for Contributions to Agriculture
In recognition of their pivotal roles in advancing agribusiness and rural development, Dr. Seye Oyeleye, Director General of the Development Agenda for Western Nigeria (DAWN) Commission, alongside other key contributors, will be honoured at the upcoming “Excellence in Agro-Business Lecture and Award.” The event, themed “Roots of Progress: Recognizing Excellence in Agribusiness and Rural Development”, is scheduled to take place on November 21, 2024, at the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA), Ibadan, Oyo State.
Dr. Oyeleye will be conferred with the Agric Development Facilitator Award, recognizing his strategic contributions to the agricultural sector, particularly through his work at DAWN Commission, where he has fostered regional cooperation among the six states of southwestern Nigeria. His efforts in driving agricultural policies, forging sustainable partnerships, and facilitating initiatives that benefit millions in the region have been lauded as transformative for the sector.
The event will feature a lecture , to be delivered by Professor Olorunfemi Oladapo Ogundele, of the Agriculture and Food Policy Department, Nigerian Institute of Social and Economic Research (NISER). Prof. Ogundele, a respected figure in agricultural policy, will share insights on the theme and explore pathways to further advance agribusiness and food security in Nigeria.
The lecture and awards ceremony is being organized by Chronicle Media, a leading media organization in southwestern Nigeria known for its dedication to promoting sectoral development through the recognition of outstanding achievements. The awards aim to spotlight individuals and organizations whose innovations and contributions have strengthened food security and economic resilience, especially in Oyo State.
The Chairman of the event is Barrister Olasunkanmi Olaleye, Honourable Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development in Oyo State. The ceremony will also be graced by His Excellency Seyi Makinde, Executive Governor of Oyo State, as the Special Guest of Honour. Governor Makinde has been a vocal advocate for agricultural reforms and investments aimed at boosting the productivity and welfare of farmers in the state.
Dr. Oyeleye has garnered respect for his work in both the public and private sectors in Nigeria and Europe. As a strategic management expert with over 25 years of experience, he has held senior positions across various industries, including roles in the UK Civil Service and several prominent Nigerian organizations. Since assuming the role of Director General at DAWN Commission, he has been instrumental in developing strategies to promote regional agricultural growth, which has been a critical area of focus for the commission.
Dr. Oyeleye’s academic credentials include a Bachelor’s degree in History from Obafemi Awolowo University, a Master’s in European International Relations and Strategic Studies from London Metropolitan University, and a Post Graduate Diploma in Human Capital Management. He also holds a Law degree from the University of East London and an honorary doctorate from Prowess University, Delaware, USA. Dr. Oyeleye’s continued focus on regional development, including agriculture, has been highlighted as a driving force behind several impactful projects across southwestern Nigeria.
