Adedotun Daniel, a 63-year-old man, found himself before a magistrate court in Akure, facing charges related to felony, including obtaining money under false pretenses and stealing by conversion.

The accusations levied against Adedotun are grave, as he stands accused of defrauding multiple individuals. One of his alleged victims, Akinsohun Folayele, claims to have lost the sum of 9,288,000 Naira. Adedotun purportedly convinced Folayele that the funds were intended for procuring a certificate of sponsorship from the United States of America.

Furthermore, Mrs. Jumbo Christianah accuses Adedotun of swindling her of 7 million Naira, money she entrusted to him for obtaining a United States visa for her younger sister. Another victim, Mr. Kehinde Femi Bayode, claims to have lost 3.5 million Naira under similar pretenses.

Adedotun Daniel had been remanded in a correctional center on December 17, 2023, and was brought before the magistrate court on December 20, 2023. However, during the court proceedings, the magistrate ruled that the jurisdiction of the court did not permit hearing the bail application. Consequently, the case has been transferred to the High Court of Justice, pending legal advice from the Department of Public Prosecution (DPP). The next court appearance is scheduled for February 29, 2024, highlighting the severity and complexity of the charges against Adedotun Daniel.
