A 15-year-old girl in Guatemala has reportedly regained consciousness inside a coffin during her funeral last week Saturday, October 10, 2026,after her family mistakenly believed she had died, leaving mourners shocked by the unexpected development.
The teenager, identified as Yuleidy Ixcotoyac, reportedly collapsed while her father, Abraham Ixcotoyac, an evangelical pastor, was taking her to a medical facility.
According to reports, her father stopped the vehicle to check her condition but believed she had died after he could neither detect a pulse nor observe signs of breathing.
Speaking to local media, he described the incident as an extremely distressing experience, explaining that he could not feel a pulse on her wrists and believed she was no longer breathing.
The family subsequently made funeral arrangements without obtaining medical confirmation of her death or an official death certificate, according to reports.
Approximately eight hours after the teenager collapsed, relatives and mourners gathered at the family home in the rural village of El Jocote for a wake.
However, the gathering took an unexpected turn when her mother, Lesvia Ríos, reportedly noticed movement inside the coffin while grieving over her daughter’s body.
Ríos said she had insisted that her daughter was still alive. She explained that when the coffin was opened, the teenager began moving before suddenly sitting upright.
Video footage of the incident reportedly shows Yuleidy, dressed in a pink T-shirt, moving inside the coffin before sitting up as astonished mourners watched.
Family members immediately helped her out of the coffin and offered her water, while some of those present reportedly shouted, “Hallelujah,” in celebration.
Teenager Recounts Experience Before Collapse
Recounting what happened before she lost consciousness, Yuleidy said she experienced severe chest pain and a heavy sensation in her chest.
According to her account, the pain became intense before she suddenly blacked out, leaving her unconscious.
The teenager is reportedly conscious and recovering at home following the frightening experience.
She also expressed gratitude to God for surviving the incident.
The video has since circulated widely on social media, attracting different reactions. While some viewers have described the incident as a miracle, others have expressed concern about the teenager’s experience and the circumstances that led her family to believe she had died.
The exact cause of her collapse and the medical circumstances surrounding the incident had not been established in the report.
The incident has also raised questions about the importance of obtaining professional medical confirmation before declaring someone dead and making funeral arrangements.
